Important Tips and Advice for Using Tatami Mats

1. FIRST USE
Due to manufacturing and storage reasons, a minimal silicone layer may be present on the surface of the tatamis. This will disappear shortly with use. If it is bothersome, it can be easily removed by wiping or washing the tatami using the cleaning method described in section 4.

2. INSTALLATION - REMOVAL
Tatamis are connected using a user-friendly and durable interlocking edge design. For quick and proper installation, simply pay attention to the arrow-shaped corner. As long as these arrows all face the same direction, the installation will be a breeze.
When removing the tatamis, lift them vertically upwards relative to one another to protect the interlocking edges from damage.

3. STORAGE
If possible, stack the tatamis on top of each other. For long-term storage, only store dry and clean tatamis in a flat, dust-free, and covered area. Avoid direct sunlight! There are no strict humidity or temperature restrictions, but it's still best to avoid extreme conditions. If the tatamis have been stored in a space below 0°C, allow them to reach room temperature for 1–2 hours before installation.

4. GENERAL CLEANING
It's best to clean tatamis individually using a sponge or soft brush, then rinse with clean water and allow to dry. They can also be cleaned as a unified surface using various mopping tools. In this case, be mindful of potential liquid seepage through the puzzle joints, so use only moderately damp mops.
For high-traffic use, occasional thorough disinfection may be necessary. Ensure that cleaning agents do not contain elements that actively react with plastics (e.g., chlorine, aldehydes). If you have any questions, we’re happy to help.
Our company also offers machine cleaning for larger areas. More information is available here:

THREE-STEP METHOD

Cleaning
Kliniko-MED is the best solution for cleaning tatamis after a full day of use. It's cost-effective and easy to use: just add 30 ml of cleaning agent to 10 liters of water.

Sanitizing
Kliniko-SPEED is an optimal solution for cleaning and disinfecting tatamis between training sessions. Simply spray the tatami, wait 5 minutes for it to take effect, then wipe with clean water.

Disinfection
SAMURAID® foot-cleaning and disinfection system not only protects personal hygiene but also prolongs the life of the tatamis. The WET-element , when used with a special disinfectant (e.g.,INNO-SEPT FRESH, or Kliniko -TEMPO), disinfects the user’s feet. The DRY-element dries and removes debris.

Both WET and DRY inserts are easy to clean and reusable depending on usage intensity.

5. PRECAUTIONS

  • Do not stack excessively!

  • Protect from high heat!

  • Avoid direct sunlight!

  • Leave at least 10 cm of space from the wall after installation.

  • When removing, separate the interlocking teeth vertically to prevent damage.

  • Use natural cleaning agents (pH7) for surface care!

  • Occasionally rotate the tatamis to ensure even wear.
